{"id":37,"date":"2013-01-10T13:23:05","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T18:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.columbiasocialenterprise.org\/conference\/?p=37"},"modified":"2013-07-23T11:22:24","modified_gmt":"2013-07-23T15:22:24","slug":"2012-conference-at-a-glance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.columbiasocialenterprise.org\/conference2013\/2012-conference-at-a-glance\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Conference at a Glance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiasocialenterprise.org\/conference2012\">2012 Social Enterprise Conference<\/a> convened more than 680 professionals, students, alumni, and faculty members on October 5.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The conference\u2019s theme centered around Aligning Strategy to Maximize Impact, which focused on the importance of creating social change at all stages of business and across all types of sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Among the day\u2019s highlights were three keynote addresses, which focused on:\u00a0the role of entrepreneurs in international development and sustainable global impact; the need for all sectors, including nonprofit, for-profit and governmental entities to respond to societal problems; and the implementation of corporate social responsibility as a core strategy for large, multinational corporations.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers included:<\/p>\n<p>FERNANDO FABRE, President, Endeavor Global, a nonprofit that works to transform emerging countries by supporting \u201cHigh Impact\u201d entrepreneurs, was joined by moderator CHRIS HAYES, host of <i>Up with Chris Hayes<\/i>, MSNBC, to discuss how Endeavor\u2019s support for entrepreneurs has helped stimulate economic growth in developing countries. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4tQ9R5abluQ&amp;feature=plcp\">(Watch here)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DR. PAUL FARMER, Founding Director, Partners In Health, and one of the world\u2019s global health leaders, gave an inspiring mid-day keynote. Dr. Farmer discussed his work in Haiti and other developing countries and addressed the need for public\/private partnerships, as well as governmental involvement, to create lasting impact. <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/K1ZpIM8pXhg\">(Watch here)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>JOE SIBILIA, CEO, CSRwire.com, moderated the closing plenary, which included CSR executives JENNIFER CROZIER, IBM; RICHARD HALL, Intel Corporation; and CAROLINE ROAN, Pfizer. The discussion focused on how these companies have integrated corporate social responsibility and sustainability as a core component of their corporate strategies. <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/S7wE7H7IsKc\">(Watch here)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbiasocialenterprise.org\/conference2012\/sessions-2\/#3b\"><b>Social Venture Pitch<\/b><\/a> session, the most well attended session of the day, featured emerging for-profit social entrepreneurs who pitched their enterprise to a panel of impact investors and advisors \u2014 all in eight minutes. The entrepreneurs were considered for a potential investment of $250,000 \u2013 500,000 by Jalia Ventures \/ Serious Change, LP.
