Creating an Equitable and Inclusive Housing Market: Financial Innovation for Underserved Communities

Uses of Capital

From public policy to community development investments, Black people and people of color have experienced discriminatory housing practices, segregation, shortage of community resources, and higher rates of eviction and gentrification. What are the pathways towards building a more equitable and affordable housing market? How can policy be designed to incentivize a city’s housing development at all socioeconomic levels? This panel will explore innovative solutions to one of the country’s most pressing needs.

News + Money

Sources of Capital

The news and journalism industry has undergone massive changes to its business model over the last several decades. This panel will compare and contrast various approaches to funding news organizations (reader revenue/subscriptions, venture-backed, philanthropic giving, etc.) and provide insight into building sustainable news organizations. It will also consider questions such as the following: In a future more heavily reliant on reader revenue and philanthropic giving, how can we be sure news organizations do not just tell the stories that readers or donors want to hear? And how do we make sure that news is still available to those who cannot pay for it? This panel will seek to answer these questions from organization leaders from a variety of backgrounds, including nonprofit and VC-backed for-profit models, both nationally and at the local level.
