Bene Cipolla is the editor in chief of Chalkbeat, overseeing seven local bureaus, the national desk, story editing, and engagement.
Bene brings 25 years of media experience to her role at Chalkbeat, including print and radio journalism, film production, and digital startups. She started her news career covering the Vatican in Rome and then worked as an editor at major magazines in New York, including Cosmopolitan. Her writing has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Time, and Fortune. She has also led content development for several digital startups, most recently Birchbox, with a focus on growing readership and engagement.
Bene is a graduate of Princeton University and was a Fulbright Scholar in Italy.
